Unhappiness, feeling losing, having a loss of concern or enjoyment in everyday activities - these are symptoms well-known to all of us. But, if they continue and influence our life significantly, it may be depression.According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 7.6 % of people above the age of 12 have depression in every two-week period. This is considerable and shows the extent of the issue.According to the World Health Organization (WHO), depression is the most widespread illness international and the leading reason of disability. They approximate that 350 million people are affected by depression, globally.

The feeling of sorrow resulting from the death of someone close is not itself depression if it does not persist. Depression can, however, be related to grief - when depression follows a loss, psychologists call it a complex bereavement. Depression is a bad feel or mental confusion characterized by persistently low mood and a feeling of sadness and loss of interest. It is a constant hitch, not a passing one, lasting on average six to eight months.Depression is different from the fluctuations in feel that community experience as a part of regular life. Short-term emotional responses to the challenges of each day life do not constitute depression.

Signs and symptoms

Symptoms of depression can include:

# depressed mood as in reduced interest or pleasure in activities previously enjoyed, loss of sexual desire

# weight lossor low appetite

# insomnia or hypersomnia (excessive sleeping)

# psychomotor agitation like restlessness, pacing up and down

# delayed psychomotor skills as in slowed movement and speech

# fatigue, loss of energy

# feelings of unimportance or guiltiness

# impaired capacity to imagine, focus, or make decisions

# recurrent thoughts of bereavement or suicide, or go at suicide

Therapy for depression

Depression is a treatable mental illness. There are three components to the management of depression:

# Support: ranging from discussing practical solutions and contributing stresses, to educating family members.

# Psychotherapy: also known as talking therapies, such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT).

# Drug treatment: specifically antidepressants.

# Yoga: yoga therapy, yoga poses for depression and panic attacks, stress and anxiety

1. Psychotherapy

Psychological or talking therapies for depression include cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), interpersonal psychotherapy, and problem-solving treatment. In mild cases of depression, psychotherapies are the first option for treatment; in moderate and severe cases, they may be used alongside other treatment.

2. Antidepressant medications

Antidepressants are drugs available on prescription from a doctor. Drugs come into use for moderate to severe depression, but are not recommended for children, and will be prescribed only with caution for adolescents.

3. Exercise and other therapies

Aerobic exercise may help against mild depression since it raises endorphin levels and stimulates the neither neurotransmitter nor epinephrine, which is related to mood.Brain stimulation therapies - including electroconvulsive therapy - are also used in depression. Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation sends magnetic pulses to the brain and may be effective in major depressive disorder.

4. Electroconvulsive therapy

Severe cases of depression that have not responded to drug treatment may benefit from electroconvulsive therapy (ECT); this is particularly effective for psychotic depression.

5. Yoga

It may be noted from above that initial diagnosis of the disease is required from a Physician and the treatment given by him and the period of the disease and various other test and medicines taken are compulsory for taking a call for going in for the treatment of Yoga

Breathing practices does help a lot in depression, stress and anxiety. It is the most affordable and any time treatment method that you can practice. Some studies show that yoga may have an anti-depressant effect and could help decrease symptoms of depression.This may be because yoga is able to decrease levels of cortisol, a stress hormone that influences levels of serotonin, the neurotransmitter often associated with depression.

After effects of Depression

Depression is a common mental disorder . Depression can result in grave complication –suicide which is mostly seen in the age of 15 and 35

Depressed mood .lowself esteem and loss of interest in daily activities in job and family . Prolonged very low mood , mostly as reported by the patient , or as observed by others . Diminished interest or inability to enjoy activities most of the days as reported by the patient or observed by others . Diminished ability to concentrate , poor memory , withdrawal social situations & activities , reduced interest in sex.

The real cause is not known but the same may be due to the families generations . Trauma , loss of near and dear ones , medical illness or any stressful situations may trigger the depressions.

Management Medication , exercise, Diet . Depressions affect the state of health may be due to overeating or excess eating leading to overweight. Do not withdraw from life .Socializing can improve your mood . Keeping in touch with friends and family means helps to share the feelings by talking to them . Some people avoid talking to certain types of people . Create the confidence in them. .Avoid smoking and taking Alcohol. Their sleeping pattern get disturbed late sleeping not having routine food. . Normal leafy vegetables in the food supported by fruits and milk will increase the immunity power and also come out from the depression stage .
